Student Instructions for Academic Integrity Charges

  1. At the initial conference, the charges will be reviewed. The student may accept responsibility, or deny responsibility.
  2. A student may have an Administrative Hearing with one hearing officer, or a hearing by the Academic Integrity Committee, which consists of one hearing officer, one student and one member of the faculty.
    1. The hearing officer may determine sanctions in cases where responsibility has been accepted, or may hear the case and determine if the student is responsible/not responsible in contested cases and then determine the sanction if needed.
    2. The Academic Integrity Committee may recommend sanctions in cases where responsibility has been accepted, or may hear the case and determine if the student is responsible/not responsible in contested cases and recommend the sanction if needed.
  3. The hearings are conducted using the same procedure whether there is a hearing officer or a committee. For more information, see the Academic Integrity Policy.
  4. Appeals procedure:

Information about how to file an appeal is included in every disciplinary letter. A three-member Appellant Hearing Panel of the Academic Integrity Committee hears the appeals. The Appellant Hearing Panel will review the facts of the case in accordance with the due process guidelines set forth in the Academic Integrity Policy. The Dean of Students will notify the student in writing of the decision of the Appellant Hearing Panel within three (3) business days of the appellant hearing. This action shall be final and is not subject to further appeal.
